Andrej Blatnik

(Ljubljana, 1963) played bass guitar in a punk band and studied a great many things, finishing with a PhD in Communication Studies. At present, he earns his living as an editor and a part-time teacher of creative writing. Andrej has published two novels, four collections of short stories, and three books of essays in Slovenian, as well as fourteen books in other languages including Spanish (Cambios de piel, Libertarias/Prodhufi 1997), Croatian, English (Skinswaps, Northwestern University Press 1998), Czech, Hungarian, Slovakian, French, Macedonian and German (Der Tag, an dem Tito starb, Folio 2005). He has read his short stories all around the globe and received various fellowships, including Fulbright. He enjoys traveling, always on a shoestring. Barbara Korun

was born in 1963 in Ljubljana, where she graduated in the Slovene language and comparative literature. She lives and teaches in Ljubljana. She publishes poems and occasionally writes about literature. In 1999 her collection of poetry Ostrina miline (The Edge of Grace) was published and awarded as the best “maiden” book of the year. Her poems were published in various anthologies in thirteen different languages. In 2003 she published a book of poetical prose Zapiski iz podmizja (Fragments from under the table) and a chapbook Chasms at Poetry Miscellany Publications, UT-Chattanooga, USA. In 2004 her new collection of poetry Razpoke (Fissures) was published in Ljubljana. She was selected to present Slovene poetry at festival of Cork, the European Capital of Culture for the year 2005, so her poems were translated and published under the title Songs of Earth and Light. Brane Mozetič

(1958) has published 11 volumes of poetry, a short-story collection and two novels. He has edited four anthologies and translated numerous French authors including Rimbaud, Genet, Foucault, Maalouf and Brossard. For many years he has been active in civil social movements and leader of the gay movement; now he is editor of two literary collections (Aleph and Lambda), and director of Center for Slovenian Literature. His books are translated into ten languages. Maja Vidmar

was born in 1961 in Nova Gorica (Slovenia). She studied comparative literature in Ljubljana, where she currently lives as a free lancer. She has published several collections of poetry: Razdalje telesa (Distances of the Body, 1984), Način vezave (Ways of Binding, 1988), Ihta smeri (Urge of Direction – Selected Poems, 1989), Ob vznožju (At the Base, 1998) and Prisotnost (Presence, 2005). As an important figure of contemporary Slovene poetry she has appeared in various literary journals and anthologies in many European languages. A book of her selected poems entitled Liebhaftige Gedichte (Droschl, 1999) was published in Graz (Austria), and also came out in Zagreb (Croatia) under the title Akt (Meandar, 1999). In 1999, her selected poems in German translation were awarded with the Hubert-Burda-Stifung Prize. |
